Lord I AM Tired..... Take What I CANNOT CARRY
B.E.S.T. Gathering Sermon
LORD, I'M TIRED... TAKE WHAT I CANNOT CARRY
Text: 1 Kings 19:1–18
Theme: God Never Intended for You to Carry What Only He Can.
Introduction
There comes a point in every warrior's life where the fight isn't against an enemy—it's against exhaustion. Do you feel like you are strong in Public but exhausted in private? People may see you serving, standing, Leading, and showing up, but they do not always see how tired your soul has become. You keep moving, but deep inside, you feel drained. You are not faithless. You are just weary
Not because you've stopped believing.
Not because you've lost your faith.
Not because you've sinned.
You're simply...
Tired.
Tired of carrying everyone else's burdens.
Tired of being strong for everyone else.
Tired of fighting battles that never seem to end.
The dangerous part about being tired is that tired people begin believing lies they would never believe when they were rested.
That was Elijah.
This wasn't just another prophet.
This was the man who shut heaven for three and a half years.
The man who called fire down from heaven.
The man who defeated 450 prophets of Baal.
The man who watched God perform one of the greatest miracles recorded in Scripture.
Yet only one chapter later...
He's running for his life.
Point 1: Even Strong Warriors Get Tired
1 Kings 19:3-4
"He came to a broom tree... and prayed that he might die..."
Think about this.
Just yesterday...
He was standing on Mount Carmel.
Today...
He's hiding under a tree asking God to take his life.
How can someone go from victory to despair so quickly?
Because...
Victory doesn't erase exhaustion.
Scenario
Imagine a father. He works sixty hours every week. Pay every bill. Never misses his son's football games. Leads family devotion. Serves at church. Checks on his aging parents. Helps his brother financially. Smiles every Sunday. Everyone says... "Man, you've got it all together." Nobody sees him sitting alone in his truck before walking into the house... Trying to gather enough strength to smile one more time. Sometimes... The strongest people are carrying the heaviest loads. Some of you came to church looking fine... But underneath... You're carrying grief... Financial pressure... Marriage struggles... Anxiety... Disappointment... You're saying... "Lord... I'm tired."
Point 2: The Enemy Attacks After Your Greatest Victory
Notice something. Jezebel couldn't defeat Elijah with 450 prophets. She defeated him with one message. Sometimes the enemy doesn't need to destroy you. He just needs to discourage you. Because discouragement weighs more than opposition.
Scenario
You've been sobered for five years. Then one phone call changes everything. Your company downsizes. Your marriage gets difficult. The doctor gives unexpected news. Your child walks away from God. Nothing physically hits you... But emotionally... It feels like you've been knocked to the ground. One conversation... One diagnosis... One betrayal... Can make you forget every miracle God has already done. The enemy whispers... "You'll never recover." "You'll always struggle." "You're by yourself." Those aren't God's words. Those are exhaustion talking.
Point 3: God Doesn't Rebuke Elijah... He Restores Him
This amazes me. God doesn't show up saying... "Elijah... where's your faith?" Instead... God lets him sleep. Feeds him. Give him water. Let’s him rest again. Sometimes...
The most spiritual thing you can do... Is rest. Because exhausted people don't think clearly.
Scenario
Imagine trying to carry a refrigerator by yourself. Everyone watching knows... That's impossible. But instead of asking for help... You keep dragging it. Until your back gives out. That's what some of us do spiritually.
We're carrying things God never asked us to carry. Other people's opinions. Yesterday's mistakes. Tomorrow's worries. Family drama. Financial fears. Childhood pain. Shame. Guilt. Failure. God says...
"Give that to Me."
Point 4: You're Carrying Things That Belong to God
Some people are carrying... Their grown children's decisions are grown. Their spouse's attitude. Their parents' expectations. Their past mistakes. Their future fears. Can I help somebody? You're trying to control what only God can change. Jesus said... "Come unto me, all who labor and are heavy laden..." Notice... He didn't say... Come when you're strong. Come when you've figured it out. Come when you've fixed yourself. He said... Come while you're carrying it.
Point 5: God Speaks Loudest After the Storm
God wasn't in the wind. Not the earthquake. Not the fire. He came... In a still small voice. Sometimes... God waits until our lives get quiet... Because we're finally listening.
Scenario
A mother loses her job. She's praying... Nothing changes. Then six months later... She realizes losing that job led her into her purpose. What felt like God abandoning her... Was actually God repositioning her.
Sometimes... Silence isn't God's absence. It's God's preparation.
Point 6: You Are Not Finished
Elijah thought... "I'm done." God said... NO... You're just tired." God tells him... "I still have kings for you to anoint." "I still have Elisha waiting." "I still have work for you." Can I tell somebody... Just because you're tired... Doesn't mean you're finished.
Scenario
Somebody hearing me...Has thought..."I'm too old." "I've made too many mistakes." "My best years are behind me." God says... "I'm not finished writing your story."
The Greatest Burden Exchange
Jesus carried... The cross... So you wouldn't have to carry condemnation. He carried...Your sin. Your shame. Your guilt. Your punishment. Why are you still carrying what He already carried?
Application
Today...Some people need to stop pretending. Stop saying... "I'm okay." When you're drowning. God already knows. Prayer isn't informing God. Prayer is transferring the burden.
Closing Illustration
Imagine hiking up a mountain carrying a backpack filled with bricks. Every mile gets harder. Someone walks beside you and says... "I'll carry it." But instead of handing it over... You keep struggling. Then complain about how heavy life is. That's many Christians. Jesus isn't asking you to prove your strength. He's asking you to trust His.
Altar Call
Maybe you've been carrying depression. Fear. Debt. Divorce. Regret. A diagnosis. Loneliness. The pressure of being a strong one. Today... The Lord is saying: "Give Me what you cannot carry." He never asked you to carry the weight of the world. He only asked you to follow Him.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Today we come honestly before You. We are tired. Some of us are physically exhausted, emotionally drained, mentally overwhelmed, and spiritually worn down. Like Elijah, we've experienced victories, yet we still find ourselves sitting beneath our own broom tree, wondering how much longer we can go.
Lord, today we lay down every burden You never intended for us to carry. We release our fear, our anxiety, our regrets, our disappointments, our unanswered questions, and the pressure of trying to control what belongs to You.
Take what we cannot carry.
Carry our pain. Carry our grief. Carry our family struggles. Carry our financial worries. Carry our hidden battles. Carry every weight that has stolen our peace.
Restore us as You restored Elijah. Feed our souls with Your Word. Refresh us with Your Spirit. Give us rest that renews our strength and clarity that silences the lies of the enemy.
Remind us that being tired does not mean we are defeated, and feeling weak does not mean You have left us. Help us hear Your still, small voice above every fear and every distraction.
Thank You that our story is not over. Thank You that our purpose remains. Thank You that through Jesus Christ, we can exchange our heavy burdens for Your perfect peace.
We leave this place lighter because we have placed our burdens into the hands that were pierced for us.
In the powerful name of Jesus Christ we pray,
